Murcia town
Murcia town
Murcia is a city in south-eastern Spain the capital and most populous city of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the seventh largest city in the country. It had a population of 672 773 inhabitants in 2020(about one third of the total population of the Region). The population of the metropolitan aerea was 1.517.938 in january of 2021. It is located on the Segura River, in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. It has a climate with hot summers, mild winters, and relatively low precipitation.
Murcia was founded by the emir of Cordoba Abd-ar Rahman in 825 with the name Mursiyah (arabic: مرسية). It is now mainly a services city and a university town. Highlights for visitors include the Cathedral of Murcia and a number of baroque buildings, renowned local cuisine, Holy week procession, works of art by the famous Murcian sculptor Francisco Salzillo, and the Fiestas de Primavera (Spring Festival).
The city, as the capital of the comarca Huerta de Murcia is called "Europe's orchard" due to its long agricultural tradition and its fruit, vegetable, and flower production and exports.
Puente Tocinos
The first district of Murcia in terms of number of inhabitants. Located on the left bank of the Segura river . It has a population of 16 655 inhabitants (INE 2019) and an area of 5,335 km².
It is located 2.8 km from the capital.
Puente Tocinos, called the Cradle of Bethlehem , has a tradition of Bethlehem artisans, whose fame gives glory to such a beautiful district.
Agricultural activity was of fundamental importance in the past, but is currently in sharp decline. The most important economic sectors are industrial and services, which share the largest contingents of assets.
Formerly, agriculture was the main economic source of the families of the Puente Tocinos garden. In it, a great variety of crops proliferated, among which the mulberry plantations predominated, due to its relationship with the silk industry. Today it is in decline.
Lemon, orange and fig trees spread through the district, especially on the banks of the terraces and on the way to the orchards. The fig plantations were maintained in connection with the raising of the pigs and their fattening. Potatoes, bell peppers for paprika, corn and wheat, as well as alfalfa, were other crops that were abundant, as well as tomato and zucchini. With the contamination of the Segura river, the pepper plantations were disappearing, since the plants dried easily.
Throughout the second half of the 20th century, the cultivation of orchard lands ceased to be profitable. The huertano has been forced to combine the garden with other jobs, such as construction and services. Agricultural activity throughout the Huerta de Murcia has been relegated to the background and is in clear decline. With the arrival of artificial fibers in clothing, the silk industry was also disappearing and with it almost all mulberry trees.

Our school´s task in the project is promoting SDGs number 12 and 13. We focus on all kinds of pro-sustainable, responsible consumption and climate action initiatives. We work with local organizations like LIGA DE LA EDUCACIÓN, and some regional government´s programs like EDUCACLIMA.
To ensure sustainable consumption and
production patterns.

REDMETEO
Through this experience, we try to work on the Sustainable Development Goals. These development goals must be the guiding thread to make our society progress. Working on these SDGs is the basis for obtaining not only a critical but also a demanding society and thus to keep on advancing.
Besides, we intend to establish a network of interconnected centres with a common link. Raising the awareness of the new generations in defence of our world. This experience aims at the comprehensive education of the new generations, designing, studying, creating and evaluating our environment.
Technology is the starting point, but it is not the end.
The weather station we started with is installed at the IES Aljada in Puente Tocinos.
The complete information: hardware, 3d parts, files, software, electronics, explanatory videos, ... is available in the repository.

Meteo Aljada - January 2020
From the Erasmus+ Project , we want to encourage our students and teachers to participate in activities related to environmental education to, in that way, promote the achievement of a series of sustainable development goals (UN SDG).
One of the activities which are being developed during this academic year with the collaboration of not only the Technology Department but also the students of the second year of Upper Secondary School who are studying the subject “Tecnología Industrial II” is the building of a weather station whose main goal is to collect and analyze the data obtained, to compare them with those of the rest of the countries of the association (Italy, Germany, England and France) and to use them as a reference in order to, following the movement “think global, act local”, promote the social movement to raise awareness of the so-called climate emergency.
In the following video made by the students members of the programme, an attempt is made to briefly explain what the weather station project consists of, better known as” Meteoaljada”.
MeteoAljada - March 2020
This is a weather Station which provides a lot of data related to climate issues such as temperatures or natural phenomena.
The IT Department together with some students who are studying the subject called “ Tecnología Industrial I”, are working on the implementation , performance and development of this project. Besides, they have decided to present this work to the contest "Ingenio y Diseño de Proyectos Tecnológicos” organised by the University of Navarra.
The goal of the contest above mentioned is to enhance creativity and the development of ideas, to promote teamworking, to discover and use technologies related to the electrical area, telecommunications, electronics and engineering relating the theory to the practice.
It consists of two phases: the elaboration of a preliminary project and its development.
On 14th February , once the resolution had been published, out of 30 projects presented ,we have been one of the 11 chosen proposals so we are highly proud to state this fact because this “Meteoaljada” was born from Erasmus + programme so that they could be carried out before May, 15th.
We will inform you about the development of Meteoaljada project and the results of the second resolution which will be held on May31st.
ECO CHRISTMAS TREE - Dicember 2019
On Tuesday December 17th , several students who belong to the group of the environmental ambassadors in our school, put a Christmas tree in a park in our town ( Puente Tocinos) but this tree is quite different to what we are used to seeing and enjoying. What makes it different to others is that the ornaments used, are made with recycled materials.
To carry out this tree successfully, there has been previously a lot of work; we were talking about it in a meeting several months before and we have been collecting different materials from other schools, High Schools and Universities in the area to be able to make the Christmas decorations.

PICK UP MATERIALS IN THE SEGURA RIVER - Dicember 2019
Last December 15th, the students from IES ALJADA attended a waste collection in the Segura river together with Greenpeace and an association called “RESIDUO CERO”.
The aim of this activity was to pick up all the possible waste , split them into different bags according to its material and take them to the corresponding containers . Apart from cleaning the river up and the surroundings, we also tried to make people aware of the serious and huge problem we are facing today, the Climate Change and all what this variation in the climate means for us and our future.
